Can Nico Gonzalez Lead Man City to UCL Victory?

Manchester City take on Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) play-off round tomorrow, Wednesday 19 February, and coach Pep Guardiola may have a secret weapon to help them progress.

Last Saturday, 15 February, 23-year-old Spanish midfielder, Nico Gonzalez, made his English Premier League debut for the Citizens in their match against Newcastle United.

Gonzalez’s overall performance was praised by fans and pundits alike as a driving force in City’s 4-0 victory over Newcastle. As such, many predict he will be included in the starting line-up that will face Los Blancos at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid, Spain.

“Nico Gonzalez helped us a lot,” said Guardiola in a post-match interview with a British sports publication. “I was really pleased because we needed him.”

The 54-year-old tactician also compared Gonzalez favourably to his injured teammate, Rodri: “He is our mini-Rodri. He has a huge presence … He has the desire to have success in the Premier League, he is here to prove himself.”

Although Guardiola thinks that Man City has a slim chance of beating Real Madrid tomorrow, miracles can happen, and Gonzalez may be the one to lead them to an astounding UCL victory.
